Improvised Still Craft a still from a cooking pot and a pipe, then turn any water into clean drinking water, or fruit and potatoes into moonshine. Works with vanilla DayZ; no other mods required. How it works Craft: combine a cooking pot with a pipe. The still goes into your hands with the pipe attached. Collect: attach a glass bottle, plastic water bottle, canteen, water pouch or filtering bottle to the Collection Bottle slot. Heat: put it on a lit fireplace, fire barrel or portable gas stove. A burned-out fire keeps heating it while the coals are hot. Clean water: fill it with any water (sea, pond, river, snow). Distilling removes all disease, so it beats boiling. It is ordinary water once bottled and mixes with any other water, but dirty water stays dirty, so collect it in a clean or empty vessel. Beer: fresh water plus fruit or potatoes, left unheated, ferments (15 minutes by default) and the water becomes beer. Each inventory slot of fruit ferments 250 ml of water, so a full still needs 8 slots (8 apples or 4 pears); extra fruit is left over. Salt water will not ferment. Dried and cooked fruit work like fresh; rotten fruit counts half and is more likely to go bad; burnt fruit will not ferment. Berries and pumpkin count as fruit; tomatoes, peppers and zucchini count a quarter. Fermenting slows in the cold and stops near freezing, and hot mash must cool first. Beer pours, keeps and drinks like any beer. Moonshine: heat a still holding beer: 1 ml of moonshine per 3 ml of beer, so a full still nearly fills a glass bottle. Heating up: moonshine starts coming over at 78 °C, clean water at 100 °C, so a full still takes a while to get going. Thermometer: attach one for 25% more moonshine. Seawater is dangerous Drinking seawater dehydrates you fast, makes you vomit, and causes saltwater sickness. Antibiotics will not help; a full saline IV cures it. Any water container can be filled from the sea, so you can haul seawater to your still. Moonshine and beer Moonshine disinfects wounds, rags and clothing like alcohol tincture, and washes bloody hands. Drinking gets you drunk: blur, stumbling, a warm feeling and pain relief, then vomiting and blackout if you overdo it. Food slows it down. It is saved with your character. A batch of beer can go bad and give food poisoning. The still also cooks food like a pot; boiled food does not burn while it holds liquid. Distilled clean water works as car coolant. Warning Blacking out is vanilla unconsciousness: if you disconnect or your game crashes while blacked out, you die. A clean server restart is safe. For server owners Copy the key from the mod's keys folder to your server's keys folder, and add the mod's improvisedstill_types.xml to your mission: register it in a CE folder in cfgeconomycore.xml (e.g. customtypes), or copy its entry into db/types.xml. The still is crafted only; the entry sets how long an untouched still lasts (7 days by default). On first start the server creates profiles/ImprovisedStill/config.json, where you can tune fermentation time, saltwater sickness, drinking effects and more, or rename the moonshine (e.g. to vodka). Restart the server to apply changes. Version 1.1.0: gameplay is complete. A dedicated still model will follow as a visual update (the still uses the vanilla cooking pot look for now). modperf has not read this mod's scripts, so there is no report and it is left out of any stack it appears in. 1 live server in the crawl publishes it.
The worker downloads the mod from the Workshop and reads its Enforce Script — nothing is executed. Usually a few minutes. This page then shows the report.
