A Beautiful Nasdara Cactus Hurts The prickly pear cactus all over Nasdara now has real spines. Walk, run or crawl through one and it hurts: a sharp sting, a grunt, and a little shock. Keep pushing through and it keeps stinging. Every now and then it cuts a bare hand open. The problem it solves Nasdara has more than 19,000 prickly pear cacti, and in vanilla they make a crunchy cactus sound when you walk through them, and that's all. You can sprint straight through a cactus patch like it's grass. Now the desert's spikiest plant feels like one, and it's worth going around. What it does A small sting. Walking into a cactus costs a bit of shock and 1 health, with the light "taking damage" grunt. It won't knock you down or stagger you. It keeps stinging. While you keep moving inside a cactus it stings again every 2 seconds. Standing still in one doesn't hurt. Getting out does. A rare hand cut. Each sting has a small (3%) chance to cut a bare hand: a light bleed, like cutting yourself crafting a barbed bat. Bandage it like any other cut. Gloves protect you. Any gloves that aren't ruined stop the hand cut. The sting itself still hurts. Only on foot. Vehicles, swimming and unconscious players are left alone. Good to know Like any damage in DayZ, a sting interrupts what you're doing, so eating or drinking while walking into a cactus gets cut short. The sting never makes you bleed on its own. Only the rare hand cut does. Only the prickly pear cactus stings. Every other bush is unchanged. Installation Server only. Players do not need to download it. Subscribe, and add the mod to your server's -serverMod= launch parameter (not -mod=). Restart the server. Compatibility Made for Nasdara. It finds the cactus by its model, so it does nothing on maps without it and is safe to leave loaded. All the logic runs on the server. No vanilla classes in config.cpp are overridden and no vanilla files are replaced. It's a small script extension of the player, plus its own damage type for the sting.
